Europe or Europa is the area of the world that Iron Harvest takes place in.

It is an alternate-history version of modern-day Eurasia, so geologically it is the same as our reality but the nations histories are slightly different, as are their names and their borders are also drawn very different.

History
The nations are still bleeding and rebuilding from the Great War that lasted 5 years and saw so much destruction, the remains of which are still being unearthed to this day. Now, war is on the horizon once more, and there are secret forces within the world seeking to destabilize the region. The last war was the one meant to end all other wars, but it was only the beginning.

Overview
The map shows:

* Grey: The Saxony Empire, a highly developed and industrial powerhouse still humiliated by the unfavorable conditions of surrender after the war.

* White: The Polania Republic, a largely agricultural nation struggling to remain sovereign amidst its aggressive neighbors. Its eastern side is currently under armed occupation by Rusviet.

* Red: Rusviet, a sprawling nation with huge population and industrial potential, but plagued by political unrest, famine, and exhausted from the war.

* Red Dot: The Factory, an independent city-state known for its advanced technology and industry that has closed its borders.

* Yellow: The Crimean Khanate, a lesser power that holds tight to its ages-old cavalry traditions, so they struggle to adapt to evolving technologies.

* Blue: The Nordic Kingdoms, a proud nation of tribes rallied under a king with a long history of seafaring.

The latter most three factions are not yet announced for Iron Harvest, but do exist in the board game Scythe. The other two known factions, Clan Albion and the Togawa Shogunate are not shown. The former is inspired by the highlands of Scotland and other Celtic influences, and they possibly control what we call the United Kingdom and possibly the lands of the Republic of Ireland, while the latter is East-Asian-themed and likely controls Japan and maybe parts of Korea and China.

There also exists a secret organization named Fenris which has ties to no one nation, which can strike terror from almost anywhere.

During the festivities near St. Petersburg on the Rusviet campaign of Iron Harvest, Olga observes Frankish (French) and Italian delegates, suggesting that these two countries exist but in a potentially different form; a Frank delegate mentions a "King" who had been contacted by Tesla, indicating perhaps that the equivalent of France in the universe of Iron Harvest remained a monarchy and did not become a republic. The form of government of Italy is not mentioned, but the presence of an "Italian" delegate suggests that a nation-state dominating the Italian peninsula exists.

The existence of Nikola Tesla's homeland of Serbia is not confirmed either.

Real-life Comparison
The borders are simplified compared to our version of the 1920's, as each nation's borders encompasses much of that which belongs to independent nations. It is also possible that the independent nations existed but were annexed during the War or have formed alliances and merged with larger countries.

* Saxony includes Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia, the Netherlands, Belgium, Northern France, and North-Eastern Italy.

** Despite there being a fair stretch of Polanian land between them, they also control Prussia and a small part of Lithuania.

* Polania encompasses Poland and eastern Ukraine, but currently has lost a third of its eastern side to Rusviet.

* Rusviet encompasses almost the entire pre-fall Soviet Union except for a bit of the Black Sea (Crimea, the Caucasus, and part of Ukraine) which belongs to the Crimean Khanate. Also controls Latvia, Estonia, and a majority of Lithuania (which were not part of the Soviet Union in our version of the 1920's).

* The Factory maintains land of its own somewhere in Romania (modern day Moldova).

* The Crimean Khanate encompasses a belt around the northern and eastern shores of the Black Sea including; Georgia, the northern Caucasus, South-Western Ukraine, and the Crimean Peninsula.

* The Nordic Kingdoms include Denmark, Norway, and Sweden.

** Interestingly, Finland seems to remain independent. Iceland is also independent, despite being part of Denmark in our version of the 1920's.

A number of different historical events have taken place as well, with many of the nations having either experienced massive changes or having maintained their status quo for hundreds of years:

* Worldwide:

**Nikola Tesla invents the automachines, revolutionizing industry and agriculture, as well as warfare when the nations armed their automachines.

**Instead of World War I starting in 1914 and ending in 1918, the Great War started in 1915 and ended in 1920.

**The exotic dancer Mata Hari, executed by the French army in 1917 on charges of spying for Germany, is cited by a Frankish delegate, indicating that she exists and is possibly still alive at the time of Iron Harvest.

* Poland:

** Instead of Poland being defeated by the Russian Empire in the January Uprising of 1863, Polania gained independence from Rusviet in said uprising, becoming its own power and a rival nation to Rusviet leading up to, during, and after the Great War.

** Instead of Poland becoming a German puppet state throughout World War I and gaining independence from the Russian Empire in 1919, Polania fought Saxony and Rusviet on both fronts, and became the site of trench warfare much like northern France in our timeline

** Instead of successfully fighting off the Soviet Union in 1919-1921, in 1920 after the Great War Polania underwent a Rusviet armed occupation of its northeastern territories, as per the terms of a cease-fire.

*Germany:

**Instead of being one of the sixteen German states, Saxony has replaced Germany and as such Dresden is its capital and seat of power instead of Berlin. This would possibly indicate that in the 1920+ universe it was Saxony that unified the German states into a nation state instead of Prussia.

** Instead of the German Empire being reformed into the German Republic after the 1918 German Revolution, the Saxony Empire retains its title and structure and exhibits no noticeable internal political dissidence until Wilhelm's seizure of the throne. As such, the German monarchy was not dissolved at the end of the Great War, and the Saxony Empire remains a monarchy under the Kaiser.

*Russia:

**Instead of experiencing a Bolshevik revolt in 1917, Rusviet experiences a similar but delayed revolt in 1920-1921.

**Instead of being assassinated in 1916, Grigori Rasputin is still alive and gaining power.

**Instead of Russia losing the Russo-Japanese war in 1905, Rusviet went to war with the Factory in 1905 but still lost due to the technological advantage of Tesla's defenses.

***Rusviet did, however, go to war with the Togawa Shogunate at an unspecified date, suffering a similarly humiliating defeat that led to the Tsardom's modernization its mech forces.

**Instead of being annexed by the Russian Empire in 1783, the Crimean Khanate has maintained independence from Rusviet for almost another 250 years.

*Scandinavia:

**Instead of the Vikings being dissolved into Norway, Denmark, and Sweden by European Christian influences, the Nordic Kingdoms have maintained their identity.

*Japan:

**Instead of Japan replacing its isolationist feudal system with the beginning of the Meji Restoration in 1867, Togawa seems to have maintained this identity even into 1920. With Togawa being a reference to the Tokugawa shogunate, this may hint that the Shogunate won the Boshin war, keeping the old ways of Japan. The Samurai social class, for example, has not been dissolved.

* Great Britain:

** Instead of the mighty British Empire, it seems to have been replaced by the relatively small and more Celtic-style Clan Albion. This indicates that perhaps the native Celtic Britons were never dominated by an invading Anglo-Saxon force, remaining the dominant power in the British Isles and never undertaking imperialistic expansion.
